07/31/06 Breaststroke Taper Practice

After the last few practices in a 13-yard pool, swimming in a 20-yard pool today felt like I was in a HUGE pool. And it was nice not to be tied to a tether! I wanted to swim some EZ IM today because I’m doing the 200 and 400 IM at worlds, but also wanted to swim some fast-cadence breast.

WARMUP: 600
No equipment
40 dolphin
40 flutter
40 breast kick
200 free/back

200 breast kick all positions

80 free/back

ROUND #1: 900
400 IM with fins. Nice and EZ and relaxed, focus on swimming CLEAN and QUIET, especially with hand entry.

With swim tether:
1 X 40: 20 eggbeater resisted, turn, 20 breast assisted (7 strokes)
1 X 40: 20 breast resisted (8 strokes), turn, 20 breast assisted (7 strokes)

5 X 40 breast FAST on :45 sendoff [went 31…33…34…33…33] Focus on swimming fast but relaxed, using exhale to get relaxed.

200 EZ pull recovery

ROUND #2: 800
320 IM with fins. Focus clean and relaxed.

With swim tether:

1 X 40: 20 eggbeater resisted, turn, 20 breast assisted
1 X 40: 20 breast resisted, turn, 20 breast assisted

4 X 40 breast FAST on :50 sendoff [went 31…33…33…33]

200 EZ pull recovery

240 IM with fins, focus on clean and relaxed
