Starting the season, you want to make sure you set your standards… and stick to them.
Today, we started to alert everyone to their "standard" push off length. We started with a pushoff drill, and then allowed them to play with that length during some initial 25s. Then the fun began.
Main Set (short course yards):
– 12 x 25 on :30 – Set up the spot you can make on every push off before you start swimming.
– 1 x 200 swim – make sure you hit that same spot on EVERY turn.
– 10 x 50 on :40 – Now make sure you hit the same spot on every push off and turn… especially when you get tired.
Evaluate how you did. Were you able to maintain your spot on EVERY push off and turn, or do you need to bring your spot in just a bit. Is it better to push more at the beginning, or to set up a consistent spot then push that out over the course of the season? Once you’ve determinded if the spot really is YOUR SPOT…
… repeat the set again.
