FIRST ONE IN
Nearly every teammate I've had for the last six years will tell you that I am usually the first one in the water, every workout. Some might think it's showing off, but it's not. It's a mental game that I play. I know, for a fact, that every time I enter the water, I'm the first one in. Every time. This includes races. I don't have to think about it; I know I'm the first one in. And by being the first one in the water, I'm that much closer to being the first one to touch the wall.
So, while my teammates are staring at the pool before practice wondering how cold the water is, or smacking each other on the butt, I'm jumping in the water -- THE FIRST ONE IN!!
There are a few other mental games I play, but I can't give away all my secrets. The point is...you can get faster by collecting little nuggets of confidence like this, which will give you an edge over your competition. Having as much confidence as possible before a race is half the race. If you start collecting these nuggets on a daily basis, think about how much more confidence you'll have over your competition.
