Sometimes even planning a practice means nothing when 35 people show up and you have access to 4 lanes. Just have to improvise.
Fortunately, today was a drafting day, which meant we had planned on practicing some open water tactics by swimming close together. We just had to adjust the intervals, and which end people started at. Turned out to be somewhat fun, but at least everyone kept moving.
First, we started with everyone watching this drill... then we adjusted the workout.
Main Set (short course yards):
- 20 x 25 on :25 - swimmers should leave :05 seconds apart
- 20 x 25 on :20 - swimmers should leave :03 seconds apart
- 20 x 25 on :18 - swimmers should leave immediately on the previous swimmer's feet
The interval should get to the point where it's very difficult for many of the swimmers to make the interval. Drafting off the swimmers in front, or the fastest swimmers who will make the interval should be very helpful. Have fun.
