A bit longer set this morning with the opportunity to throw in some stroke work (little opportunity, but opportunity none the less)
Mixing some longer smooth swims with some shorter up tempo swims of your stroke is a great way to keep moving for a while and learn some things about that special stroke.
Main Set (long course meters):
• 400 smooth on 6:00
• 4 x 100 on 1:30 - odds are strong stroke, evens are smooth free
• 2 x 200 smooth on 3:00
• 4 x 100 on 1:30 - odds are strong stroke, evens are smooth free
Do the set two times through.
When I posted in the intro "little opportunity", for me, 100's breaststroke on 1:30 long course, are a bit tough right now. Still a bit sick and it's a long way. To make sure I avoided my stroke falling apart and struggling through, I changed the set a bit and split the stroke 100's into 50 breast 50 free. If a set is too tough for you to keep the focus, either adjust the intervals, or adjust how you're doing the set. If you're working in a team environment and can't adjust the intervals, sometimes it's necessary to vary the set so you can keep up. This is when it's good to be 30 years older than your lane-mates... everyone cuts you some slack. :)
