Borrowing from an old drill, here's a fun set sure to get you more aware of your hands.
The drill we based the practice on was Freestyle - Ball Catch. We added a slight variation however.
The idea of the set was to make everyone aware of their hands, and how to hold the water with the forearms and bicepts... not just the hands. Your hands will be aware more at the end of this practice.
Main Set (short course yards):
- 10 x 50 on :50 using the practice golf balls, but holding the hand in a fist around the ball.
- 10 x 50 on :50 swim. Open the hands and feel the water.
- 10 x 50 on :50 using the practice golf balls like in the drill above.
- 10 x 50 on :50 swim. Open the hands and feel the water.
To finish, we alternated 2 x 25 holding the balls with a fist, with 2 x 25 swim. We counted strokes, and the goal was to use the same number of strokes during the fist swimming, as with regular swimming.
Enjoy.
