Unconventional - Holiday Fun with Your Snorkel

In a recent article for Swimming World Magazine, we wrote about a drill that coach Dave Marsh uses with his backstrokers. He has them take a Finis center-mount Swimmer's Snorkel, turn it around, and swim backstroke -- keeping the snorkel centered and not moving. In taking photos for the article, we noticed that the turned-around snorkel made our swimmer look a bit like Grinch's dog -- the one with the lone antler.

From there, it didn't take long to envision the Holiday Reindeer Swimmer.

Why Do It:
If trying this doesn't make somebody laugh... you must be in the HEAT of your training, and are just too tired.

How to Do It:

1. You'll need TWO snorkels.

2. Somehow, get them both on your head. (Getting them on someone ELSE'S head is preferable... ' cause it kinda hurts.)

3. Turn the snorkels so they're facing away from the swimmer and then have him or her swim with their head JUST a bit high so they keep the "antlers" out of the water.

4. Uh... that's about it.

How to Do It Really Well (the Fine Points):
Turn the "antlers" into "feelers" so you can also create the Holiday Swimming ANT. Even if you are a firm believer that ants don't celebrate Christmas, or Hanukkah, or even Festivus, you can still pretend. You've got to imagine that someday, somewhere, Santa is going to crash into the water, and it's going to be up to one of US swimmer-type people, to save the day.

The only question is... WILL YOU BE READY? Now it's not such a dumb drill after all... is it?
