02/18/04 20-Yard Pool Breaststroke PracticeAs a kid, I swam a lot of yards in the local YMCA 20-yard pool, so I kinda like short pools. They're great for working on turns and pullouts, and for working with a swim tether. I doubt if I have enough strength to swim 25 yards against a commercial swim tether, but I can JUST make 20 yards. The pool where I live is 20 yards, so I like to use the tether whenever I swim there. Here's the practice I did this morning.WARMUP: 600With fins. [4 X (40 SA drill + 40 LA drill + 40 SA Drill)] + 120 FreeMAIN SET #1: 1200Swim 3 rounds of the following:200 breast kick in all different postions (40 yards each of Underwater Breast Kick, Hand-Lead Kick on Your Back, Hand-Lead on Your Stomach, Head-Lead on Your Back, Head-Lead on Your Stomach). Wear a pull buoy for the entire 200.5 X 40 Drill/Swim, using a different Breaststroke drill on each 40Round #1: Wear fistgloves for the entire round. Wear pull buoy for the 200 kick.Round #2:Nekked hands for the entire round. Wear pull buoy for the 200 kick.Round #3:Wear paddles for the entire round. Wear pull buoy for the 200 kick. When kicking with the pull buoy, my focus was to keep my kick narrow, and not come to a complete stop at any point. My focus on the swims was to KEEP MOVING -- to keep flowing through the water with no dead spots in my rhythm or my stroke. MAIN SET #2: 400With a swim tether.10 X 40 Breaststroke, taking approx. 10 bobs as recovery between each 40. I tried to maintain 10 strokes per length against the tether, and 8 to 9 strokes with the tether. Again, I tried to focus on flowing through the water with no dead spots.WARMDOWN: 300200 Breast kick with a kickboard120 FreestyleTotal Yardage: 2520
