Looks like this is going to be a habit. Here's this morning's practice. As it turns out this is a standard Friday morning pratice, so, now knowing this, I'll be able to pinpoint how I want to swim it ahead of time. I'm actually looking forward to throwing in some fast breaststroke into this practice. Anyway... here it is:1,000 warm-upI did my usual, 200 free, 200 kick, 200 free, 200 pull, 200 free. May sound boring, but it gives me a chance to just get the kinks out. Feel good to slowly get started.400 free - 6:002 x 200 free - 3:004 x 100 free - 1:30Pretty straight forward set. Just tried to work my rhythm, and keep the pace going pretty good. I didn't really know what else was coming, so I kinda bagged the 100's just to save up for the rest of practice. Probably not a good example, but I'm getting old!200 pull 3:002 x 100 pull - 1:304 x 50 pull - :45Again, pretty simple, and I just wanted to keep it long. I started to pick up the pace a little towards the 2nd 100 and 50's, only to realize my entire body felt like a drag suit.100 kick - 1:402 x 50 kick - :504 x 25 kick - :25I went on the "fins" interval, since I can still kick fairly fast. I'm trying to start off my training by keeping all of my kick pace under a 1:25 / 100. This really works the legs, and makes me really think about how I'm drawing my legs up. I have a tendency (after 20 years of focusing on a BIG KICK, so go figure) to bring my heels up too high, and it really slows me down. I'm trying a more shallow kick, like my buddy Dave has. Focusing in drag limitation, rather than power production.Have a great weekend.
