Question of the Week - July 20, 2007
DESCRIBE THE IMAGE

Let us know how YOU would answer the following Question of the Week. This week's question will help you brush up on your geometry, and will give you an idea of what it costs you if you don't swim STRAIGHT during a race.

Here's the question: You are swimming 100 breaststroke in a 25-meter pool. The interior width of your lane is 2.5 meters. You push off on the extreme right-hand side of your lane and touch the wall at the extreme left-hand side of the lane at the other end. You travel the same path (right side of lane to left side of lane) on all four lengths. How far did you swim?

Hint: You will need the Pythagorean Theorem (or a smart swim coach) to figure this out.
